About

I’m a story artist | Film-maker | Writer.

I spent my childhood in Malawi, Zambia and the UK, mostly drawing and dreaming of being Indiana Jones. Studied Fine art in Manchester, then became a percussionist for five years touring Europe in a band called 'The Co-Creators'. You can see us in ‘Glastonbury: The Movie’

Got a degree in film and won the Royal Television Society award for best Student documentary in the UK. Worked as a documentary camera person for a while, before switching to storyboarding.

I was an art dept assistant on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets before going on to storyboard live-action movies and TV with top production companies in London including two years on various shows for the Award-winning Impossible Pictures such as the highly successful Prehistoric Park. Directed a couple of short films.

Joined Animation Lab in Jerusalem as a lead story artist where I worked for six years. Spent several years with Illumination Entertainment and have boarded on a bunch of their movies, including The Secret Life Of Pets, The Grinch and Despicable Me 3. Recently I've been working on Disney's Ron's Gone Wrong at Locksmith Studios in London.

I also write children's books.

I currently work remotely from Jerusalem and periodically commute to London.

“Lewie Kerr joined me at Animation Lab in 2007. It was quickly apparent that Lewie was a very talented Story Artist. His first assignment was a complex scene with lots of action, comedy and a few solid emotional beats. His execution was excellent! Great drawing skills, really funny acting, excellent comic timing and some of the best camerawork I’ve seen in storyboards. I recommend him highly.”
Barry Cook (Director: Mulan, Arthur Chistmas) Head of Story, Animation Lab.

“Lewie is one of the finest story artists I have ever come across. He worked very closely with the editor and the story team to produce some of the best structured and funniest sequences in the movie. Lewie is an excellent draughtsman and a very skilled story teller, and I highly recommend him and his work. I would leap at the chance to work with him again”
Alex Williams - Director, Animation Lab

“Lewie’s storyboards are great to edit. He weaves character, camera, visual comedy and story beats to very dramatic effect. He excels at high-paced action scenes requiring highly focused design skills. He’s also a pleasure to work with”
John Carnochan (Editor: Ice Age, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) - Superving editor, Animation Lab

"Lewie continuously presented sequences of an extremely high level. His skills as a story artist underlined the medium of animation at its best, combining visual execution with fantastic ideas. His boarding always expressed outstanding staging and camera angles. One of Lewie’s great qualities was his ability to bring the script to life and always improve on what he was working with. He has a tremendous sense of humor and understanding of comedy. As such, we always looked forward to when Lewie would pitch a sequence. Lewie is an exceptional talent and would be a great addition to any production in the future."
Paul and Gaetan Brizzi (Directors: Fantasia 2000) - Directors, Animation Lab.

Lewie has a remarkable ability to bring an idea to life through his beautifully drafted drawings. Having worked on a visually demanding six part series with him , Prehistoric Park for the UK network ITV and Freemantle I can vouch for his creative talent, his ability to meet almost impossible deadlines and his good humour, which he never failed to deliver on. Each frame he drew gave an often vague and abstract idea a clear character and visual direction which meant that his story boards became the invaluable short hand you need when filming and in post. They also showed real humour and that coupled with his attention to detail made them very special.
Lewie's storyboards never disappoint!
Karen Kelly - Producer/Director, Prehistoric Park, Impossible Pictures
