the lost alien

Image
May I present some beat-boards for a book project I'm doing. As part of developing the story I've deliberately applied some techniques I'm developing for engaging the audience's (or reader's) emotions. The techniques are based on discoveries being made about emotions in the brain. In this sequence I'm attempting to arouse what neuroscientists call the SEEKING emotion which could be defined as the excitement we feel when we are anticipating something, the thrill we feel when we are about to discover something out there in the great unknown...

An exploding spaceship!

I'm a bit obsessed with pure geometric dynamics in cinema. This animatic is just two shots. Initially I started drawing them to set up a crazy action scene in space I want to board, but then I got sucked into animating the panels. Sometimes I can't resist trying to capture that all-important thing called movement. It's what the 'movies' are all about after all.

Alien holiday

Here are some sketches I cleaned up for a Dr Seuss meets Star Wars world I'm trying to develop. These are Alien tourist board pictures for humans interested in an exotic holiday on another planet.

Skoo

Been trying to find a design for an alien. Spent a few months doodling in sketch books. Here's a small sample of the 10 phrillion sketches that finally led me to a character called Skoo. And here's a sketch of Skoo with his new-found friend.

I spent a lot of my childhood flying between Africa and Europe. Ever since I've found the whole business of airtravel fascinating. This is from an idea I'm developing which could probably be summed up as An Airplane Disaster Movie in Space...with ALIENS - Yippee!
